Tax Bill Information
Real Estate Tax Bill:
Massachusetts General Law requires that we must send the property tax bill to the owner of record as of the January 1 date immediately preceding the start of the fiscal year. This means that if you had purchased property in the Town of Ware after January 1, the tax bills for July 1 to June 30 would be in the name of the previous owner and in all likelihood, the bills would be forwarded to the previous owner by the post office. Please call the Tax Collector’s office (413) 967-9648, Ext. 178 to have a copy of the bill mailed to you. Remember, it is the owner’s responsibility to pay the tax obligation on time. Failure to receive a bill does not stay the collection of the tax.
Due Dates - Quarterly Tax Billing System:
First payment: Normally due on or before August 1
Second payment: Normally due on or before November 1
Third Payment: Normally due on or before February 1
Fourth Payment: Normally due on or before May 1

Penalty for late payment:
Interest at an annual rate of 14%, computed per diem, is assessed on all payments received at the Tax Collector’s. Post marks do not verify timely payments. All payments must be received in the Tax Office by 4pm on the due date.
